Lara is the Sustainability Executive at the British Plastics Federation (BPF) which is the world’s longest running plastics trade association, representing over 80% of the UK plastics industry by turnover. Lara looks after the Sustainability Committee which is made up of specialists across the Federation, aiming to work proactively with industry, stakeholders and legislators to contribute to the Circular Economy and global sustainability agenda. Through innovation and communication, Lara aims to achieve public, consumer and regulatory recognition that plastic material and products offer versatile, sustainable, low carbon solutions for manufacturing in the 21st Century. An acute focus on environmental, social and economic drivers within the industry is key in order to continue reaching for sustainability. Lara obtained a BSc in Environmental Science at the University of Cape Town and an MSc in Environmental Policy at Wageningen University & Research, before working as an Environmental Scientist in Johannesburg and then joining the BPF in London. Her key interests are reaching Net Zero as an industry, the Circular Economy and tackling marine plastic pollution.
